Apple Taste Testing Contest.....
So just for fun we thought we'd buy 2 of every kind of apple at Walmart and do a little taste testing! At first I wasn't sure if the kids (especially the youngest ones) would be able to even tell the difference but thought it'd still be fun to do. So, we got them all cut and put in their appropriate labeled pile and then started chowing down!
We had 10 different varieties to choose from: Ambrosia, Braeburn, Fuji, Gala, Golden Delicious, Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, Jazz, Pink Lady and Red Delicious.
And the Winners are:
Luke #1-Jazz #2-Braeburn
Bethany #1-Gala #2-Jazz
Ephraim #1-Red Delicious #2-Ambrosia
Jireh #1-Red Delicious #2-Ambrosia
Havilah #1-Red Delicious #2-Honeycrisp
Charis-Undecided! ;)
So, we've been looking into all the different varieties of apple trees to buy for our little "wanna be" homestead...this little test wasn't just fun for the kids but a very good idea of what kind of apples we want, or more importantly don't want!
We are very excited to be getting trees "soon" but at this point we aren't exactly sure HOW soon we will be able to. We were originally hoping that we could get trees in the ground by Spring but I am thinking that with everything else we will HAVE to buy, we will just have to wait.
Its probably the worst thing about Luke being in a commissions job....budgeting is VERY TRICKY!
We can't just say we will do "this" by "this time" because if Luke didn't sell as much we have to spend the next check catching up on just regular life expenses...it's definitely a delicate balance of saving and not spending anything and knowing when to spend and just exactly how much we can afford to spend without knowing what the next month will hold in store for us. The uncertainty is/can be quite nerve wrecking. Overall however, the job is worth it and we are right where we want to be and where God has lead us...so we can't complain...but we can certainly count our blessings!
