The Gerrick Pilgrimage

The Gerrick Pilgrimage

Proverbs 16:9  The mind of man plans his way, But the LORD directs his steps.

Here we are, on our way to Idaho Falls, Idaho from Grafton, Ohio. What a long trip this is going to be...1day and 3hrs + potty/diaper changing breaks, gas breaks, feeding breaks and whatever other "emergencies" the kids come up with that require us to stop along the way...to be exact. Kids make everything take longer, but we wouldn't trade them for the world! We are pulling our "new-to-us" Forest River Rockwood 30' Travel Trailer - which we have named Kurios, which is Greek for Sovereign, in case you were wondering! :)

We bought Kurios almost 3 weeks ago after a relaxing and very mind clearing night in a hotel room. We were originally going to "just look", but ended up feeling that God was opening the door and essentially leading the way for a new chapter in our lives that included the current trip to Idaho.

Our trailer was graciously allowed to be parked for a couple days at our good friend's house until we were able to pick it up and head on our way. We finished packing up everything that could possibly be needed for our 3 week vacation/pilgrimage and headed off into the dark around midnight on March 6th. Ironically, today is my birthday, and there is no other way I would rather be spending my time then with my family on this next adventure in our lives.

We only drove for an hour, give or take, before having to pull over and sleep for the night. We wanted to get as much of a head start as possible. We "only" have from the 6th to the 25th for our trip, so we wanted to make sure we got as much drive time in as possible. After getting Kurios packed up (along with moving the rest of ALL of our belongings into a storage unit- thats another story!) we didnt have much time to actually be on the road. We decided to just drive to the nearest travel plaza off I-80. We arrived shortly after 1am and was pleasantly surprised to find that we there were electric hook-ups.

We stopped at Amherst Travel Plaza and were a little, ok, I'm not gonna lie, a lot, discouraged that it was 1° outside and the trailer was just as cold inside! We left the sleeping kids in the van until we could get everything set/warmed up. It took us about an hour to get the trailer unhitched, set up, warmed up, and kids in bed. Regardless of the frigidness, Ephraim(3yr) and Jireh(1yr) LOVE their "new home" and wish they could be in it longer than just to sleep in. (Don't worry kids, it'll happen soon enough!)
